Giedrė Balčytytė. Where Language Meets Music: Rhythm and the Sound of English

This session explores the internal rhythm of language and its musical qualities, highlighting how rhythmic patterns differ across languages. English is presented as a stress-timed system in which patterns of stress, strong and weak forms and subtle sound reduction shape both pronunciation and meaning. Particular attention is given to timing and the sense of isochrony that gives English its characteristic flow. The session includes rhythmic and musical exercises, chanting and experimentation, allowing participants to feel how English falls into patterns and to experience the organisation of speech from the inside.

Jurga Cibulskienė. Studying at school is like ... What does language say about us?

This seminar invites students to explore how metaphor shapes the way we think and speak about school. Through short interactive activities and discussion, students will reflect on their own experiences and see how everyday expressions can uncover deeper meanings about education and ourselves. Hopefully, we will arrive at the idea that language is never neutral: it reveals attitudes, emotions, and values.
