Is there a possibility to study something else alongside English Philology?
It is entirely possible and encouraged to take up minor studies while studying English Philology. There is a large selection of minor field studies all across different programmes and faculties of Vilnius University. Some of the possible selections include but are not limited to: Philology studies of a second language (German, Spanish, Italian etc.), sociology, business management and many more. How competitive is the admissions process?
The admission into the English Philology programme is not competitive unless you are a local student and are aiming to apply to a state funded spot. In which case, your competition will be fiercer. However, if you show great progress and excellent results it is possible for Lithuanian students to later gain a tuition-fee free spot after the rotation is finished.
Can I choose a specialization (e.g., linguistics, literature, translation)?
The first year of your studies is meant for general knowledge in most fields; linguistics, literature, culture, and general subjects like academic writing. Later, you are allowed to choose your specialization according to your preferences through electives and minor studies, both of which allow you to explore your preferred field of study and continue figuring out what you prefer when it comes to philology.
Are classes taught entirely in English?
Yes, all the compulsory and optional courses in the English Philology programme are taught entirely in English. However, some courses from individual studies may be taught in Lithuanian or other languages. The language of instruction is usually shown next to the course in the individual studies list. Are there any online classes?
Yes, some classes might be online. When selecting a subject, you will be able to see if it happens online or in the lecture hall in the description of the study plan. Some classes may be hybrid and have lectures online and seminars in real life. Usually, all of such instances will be communicated to you by your professor.
Can I choose subjects from other faculties?
Through optional courses (pasirenkamieji dalykai, PD) you can select subjects from other faculties and register for them once the registration is open. Registration dates vary every year, however, you will be always informed beforehand, so you can select the desired classes and register for them without stress.
