Home and Away: Studying English Philology beyond Vilnius in Melbourne, Australia

🌿🌹 Home and Away: Studying English Philology beyond Vilnius in Melbourne, Australia 🌿🌹

We are happy when our students stay at home and study on campus, and we are equally happy when they go abroad to study, gaining international and intercultural experience along the way.

🌿🌹And sometimes, our students go away not just once, but twice! 🌿

🌿🌹This is Iryna Neschotna’s second semester at the University of Melbourne. 🇦🇺

🌿🌹Iryna Neschotna, a 4th-year English Philology student, shares her experience of her second semester in Australia — in her own words:

“I wanted to express my gratitude to the Faculty for giving me another opportunity to spend a semester in Australia! I am already halfway through my semester at the University of Melbourne and have been actively working on the annotated bibliography for my BA thesis 🙂

One of the biggest highlights of my semester so far has definitely been my neuroscience course. As part of the course, I have learned a great deal about neuroanatomy and had the opportunity to participate in two laboratory sessions. During one of them, I was able to hold a real human brain, while in the other, I measured action potentials in a cricket. I am attaching a photo from the lab to this email. I find the subject particularly challenging as a student from a non-science background, but also extremely interesting and useful, especially as I am considering continuing my studies in the direction of neurolinguistics.

Alongside my neuroscience studies, I am currently carrying out research in historical linguistics and preparing my applications for MA programs. I have also been fortunate to connect with Ukrainian PhD students and professors at the University of Melbourne, which makes my stay here even more meaningful this time.”

Thank you, Iryna, for kindly sharing your experience in Australia! 🌿🌹
