Translation, Literary Realities and Professional Practice
ย
On 22 September, fourth-year ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ students attended a lecture organised by the Lithuanian Association of Literary Translators (LLVS) and the Lithuanian Language Society (Lietuviลณ kalbos draugija), delivered by Prof. Dr Aurelija Leonaviฤienฤ.
ย
The lecture, Groลพinฤs literatลซros kultลซriniลณ realijลณ vertimo ypatumai, was closely related to the topics explored in the elective course ๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ .
ย
โLLVS events that I attended during my own studies, and later in my career, had a significant impact on who I am as a specialist today. Therefore, being a member of LLVS today, it is a great joy to bring ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ students into the same professional and discussion-rich environment,โ says lecturer ๐ลซ๐ญ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐ญฤ.
ย
โThe event brought our attention to the history of translators researching realia and various ways to deal with them in fictional texts. It was useful to see what approaches translators chose most often and to discuss how their selections might have succeeded or failed and could be improved,โ say fourth-year students ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฒ๐ญฤ and ๐๐ ๐งฤ ๐๐๐ญ๐ฤ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ค๐๐ข๐ญฤ.
ย
For the students, the event offered an opportunity to connect the theoretical and practical aspects of translation discussed in their studies with the work and experience of professional translators.
ย
Many thanks to Rลซta Burbaitฤ for bringing this opportunity to our students!
