Will AI ever write like humans? An interactive presentation on AI generated texts by Kotryna Garanašvili

On January 6th Anglistikos Akademija welcomed Šeduvos Gymnasium students to learn more about English Philology studies from Linara Bartkuvienė, and test their knowledge of AI writing.

During the activity guests from Šeduva had a chance to listen to Kotryna Garanašvili presentation Lost in AI Translation: How to Use Artificial Intelligence in Writing and Translating Literature? and get to know different ways to recognise AI generated works.

Firstly the presentation began by Kotryna Garanašvili highlighting the power of modern generative AI and how quickly it is improving by displaying two pictures of the same species of frog - one generated by AI and one real. The guest students then had a chance to guess which was real and which one was generated by Artificial Intelligence.

Moving on, the guests were presented 8 different sets of sentences - one written by a human and one by AI, and then they had a small interactive activity of guessing which sentences were written by AI. During the activity, Kotryna Garanašvili also highlighted the traits of AI writing such as: lack of emotion, incorrect information, and wrong use of punctuation marks.

After an eventful presentation and activity the guests had a chance to learn more about the faculty’s history and the murals in the halls by taking a fun tour led by English Philology students.
